  1. Was good of Packt to let its authors know. They did at least let us know that they wouldn’t be paying any royalties for now:-

Subject: Your Quarter 1 2014 Royalties and Statement

We are writing to you to inform you of a technical fault that we have encountered with our automated Royalty payment systems.

We are currently in the process of rectifying these issues and expect to have them corrected imminently.

This does however mean that there will be a delay in the issue of your Quarter 1 royalty statement alongside any payment that may be due.

We would like to sincerely apologize for this delay, for any inconvenience and distress that this may cause.

Should you foresee this short term issue effecting you adversely in anyway, or, have any further queries with regard to this email, your account with Packt, or to change any of your registered details, please do not hesitate to contact us at invoices@packtpub.com.

Packt Publishing would like to thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. We greatly value all of our authors and are always striving to ensure that we provide you the best possible service.

Finally we would like to assure you that we are working hard to rectify this issue now and to ensure that it cannot happen again in the future.

One might think Packt has run into technical difficulties but the truth is they are one big bag of ineptitude that cares for nothing but the profit margin – don’t believe me, their extraordinarily horrid contract, where for example they take not a shred of editorial responsibility, makes the case perfectly well.

In my case, seeing as they have stolen my copyright and are paying me nothing yet have earned over $20K from me – and even having written that I was one of the best authors they’d dealt with before doing sweet FA marketing and paying mere lip service, saying sorry sorry sorry yet making no amends, ultimately wasting a year of my life, career and sorely damaging my ‘server build 4 noobs’ project vpsBible.com – at least now I can have the satisfaction that with my book (WordPress 3 Ultimate Security, BTW) is at half price so, hey, they’re only stealing half as much.

    Happy days.

I tell you – and I know for sure that my case is not isolated – Packt is a scam run by con men like Louay Fatoohi. These people need to be brought to book. #Geddit!

Here, have some reality, an enlightening Google+ thread that isn’t written by (or so it seems and sorry if not the case) some Packt crony: http://guv.li/scam

    • Hi,

I did some work for Packt in the past. I neither work for them nor get paid for the post. If I buy books I use my hard earned money.

I do not like to have my site being used for this kind of comments or ignite flames. If you have any issues please bring it elsewhere where you could find a solution that can fit for your purpose.

I am trying to maintain a site with a positive view on technology and technology related offering including books etc.

I know a lot of recognized Oracle OCMs, Oracle ACEs and Oracle ACE Directors that have published their work using Packt . The work of these guys is worth reading.

      Best Regards,

      Guenadi Jilevski
